While the term itself may sound cut and dry, one persons idea of premarital sex may be different than another persons. Lets break it down so the term is easier to understand.
Biblical Definition
The bible actually doesn’t use the term ‘premarital’ when it refers to sexual relations. Instead, it talks of fornication. Fornication is the act of physical intercourse between persons who are unmarried. Many people abstain from sex until they are married because of strong religious beliefs.
What About Oral Sex?
Those who choose to abstain for religious purposes are often left wondering exactly what is included in the term. Many say that oral sex and foreplay are okay because only intercourse is mentioned in the Bible. Others feel that even oral sex is sex, and should be abstained from. Whether or not you decide if it’s okay for you is entirely up to you. If you feel there is no moral issue with the acts leading up to sex, then you can choose to do this. It’s a personal matter, and it’s your body, so you make the decision.
Is It The Norm?
Recent studies have shown that as many as 84% of people have had premarital sex before they reached the age of 45. The numbers vary depending on what country is being looked at and the religious affiliations found. The idea of normal also changes with your own personal belief. So while it looks like the majority of people do think premarital sex is acceptable, that doesn’t mean you have to follow if you don’t feel comfortable with it.
